The old expression, “Sticks and stones may hurt my bones, but words will never hurt me” is not true.  Words can hurt.

Physical wounds are awful, but in reality, they may heal quicker than words that get inside and echo long after they are said.

For some, their words are not enough to wound.  They call on God to curse His Creations too.  He won’t and He does not take kindly to anyone trying to get Him to do it.

You must not misuse the name of The Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.

Exodus 20:7

James addressed the issue of hurtful words.

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.

Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?

My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.”

James 1:9-12

We should all let God check our words at the door of our mouth.  David said it well.

“May my spoken words and unspoken thoughts be pleasing even to you, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer!”

Psalm 19:14
