Many of us grew up singing “Jesus loves me.” We may have even believed it when we were younger.
But then life happened. And we may have begun to doubt whether Jesus really loved us.
In retrospect, I realize the times I have doubted were times when He did not conform to my plans.
I did read The Bible, but I did so in the “Carolyn Jones translation.” I often picked verses out of context and hung on to them.
I said I was claiming God’s Promises, but really I was not. My concept of God’s Promises were just too small.
I have heard devoted Christians “claim” David’s Words as God’s Assurance they would rise from their sick bed on earth.
David said, “I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of The Lord!”
Psalm 118:17
That is true, but God never said our living would be limited to just our time on earth. Quite the opposite! We are promised all eternity to declare His Works!
I frequently latched on to God’s Words through Jeremiah the prophet.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
But I considered any “growth pains” as harmful. I started doubting and stopped hoping I would have a future or in any case, the future I wanted.
Do you believe Jesus loves you? Can you trust that He is speaking directly to you through The Promises already recorded in His Word?
I have loved you with an Everlasting Love;
therefore I have continued My Faithfulness to you.
Jeremiah 31:3
Be sure of this. I am with you always!
Matthew 28:20
