I never knew my father’s father. He died many years before I was born.

He lived with my parents in his last years on earth. My mother said her favorite memory was of him sitting on their front porch, singing hymns.

My mother loved to sing. Even now, as I sit in my rocking chair, sometimes I am carried back to the time she rocked me and sang me to sleep.

We sang in the church choir together. She was a soprano. I was an alto. Sometimes we would practice at home. I loved the spontaneous duets.

Some time after she was promoted to Heaven, I heard one of the hymns we used to sing together. In tears, I said to her, “Oh Mother, I wish we could sing together like we used to.”

In my spirit, I heard her say, “We can, Carolyn. We are just in separate sections of the choir!”

I was a writer from a young age. I loved pouring out my thoughts and feelings on paper and later on the computer.

I also learned how to play the piano and later the organ.

But I had never combined these two passions until after my mother’s death. One day, as I was letting my fingers wander over the piano keys, God gave me a wondrous gift in her memory.

He allowed me to compose a song with both words and music. It was the first of many songs He gave me to compose. I shared the music with many.

In recent years, I began to sing in the wee hours of the morning in my bedroom. I would sing the songs to those I knew who were lonely or suffering. I trusted The Holy Spirit to take the music to them.

I then discovered I could sing and text the music to them. So I did, with miraculous results.

Music is God’s Great Connection with His Universe. In fact, God sings in delight when He looks at what He created. He sings in joy over you!

“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His Love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17

And God gave bits of His Song to song writers who shared them. They left their foot prints in musical notes.

We get to follow them through time and space and thus all who hear the song are connected, just as The Great Song Writer intended.

I love Gloria Gaither’s description of what a glorious time we will have when all God’s singers get home!

I invite you to listen and join the anticipation of the great reunion to come!
