For the past year, my husband and I have spent intensive time in prayer, seeking answers to our many questions about God.  He answered us!  Our most recent stop on that journey was to publish a book.  If You Only Knew … Who I AM!  is God’s Love Story.

We learned with great Joy that not only did God know us, but He wanted us to know Him.

God is quite willing to answer our questions.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,

Who gives generously to all

without finding fault,

and it will be given to you.

James 1:5

The Lord, speaking through the prophet, Jeremiah, said,

Call to Me and I will answer you

and tell you

great and unsearchable things you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:3

We started our quest with the certain knowledge that God was willing to talk to us.  God is willing to talk to anyone He created.  But we had to learn (and are still learning) how to listen and hear Him.

God does speak today.  Sometimes He speaks through a human voice, as He did with the prophets and teachers of old.  Sometimes He speaks through His Voice we hear in other ways.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left,

your ears will hear a voice behind you,

“This is the way, walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:21

God always speaks through His Word, as recorded in the Bible.  God makes that Word come alive through The Power of The Holy Spirit.  The Bible is not just a collection of Words on pages.  It actually has the ability to come to Life inside of you when you read it or listen to it being read to you.

For the word of God is alive and active …

Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word does not change.  What He said stands forever.  That means, if He said it to someone in the past, His Word is just as valid for you as it was for them.

I, the LORD never change …

Malachi 3:6

But The Word of our God will last forever.

Isaiah 40:8

However, God will personalize His Word to you.  You may find that He said, “Don’t be afraid” to someone in the past.  However, now, He will speak those Words to you in your present day circumstances.

How will you know whether The Word is for you?  Ask God.  Remember James 1:5.  You can ask Him.  He will speak through the Power of The Holy Spirit, Who will never lie to you.  The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth!

But when He, The Spirit of Truth, comes,

He will guide you into all The Truth …

John 16:13

Pilate asked a riveting question of Jesus that we should all be asking.

“What is Truth? …”

John 18:38

That was what we wanted to know too.  We had grown up with certain beliefs.  But the more we thought we knew about God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit, the more things became confusing.  After a lifetime of seeking, we found we had more questions than answers.

We had the desire to rewind our lives back to the time when we knew less.  We suddenly realized God would let us go back … way back … all the way to the womb again.  We had no idea we were about to be truly “born again.”  God was ready to answer our questions.  But He had one big question for us first.

Would we be willing to give up any preconceived notions we had about Him?  Would we truly be willing to start fresh and let Him teach us about Who He was?  We each put out one toe and said, “Yes.”

We had unending questions.  He did not give automatic answers.  Sometimes He answered right away.  Sometimes He gave us “homework.”  Sometimes He seemed not to answer at all.  Instead, He asked us questions that caused us to realize we already knew The Answer.  Some really tough questions He answered simply, as He had for others before us.

Trust in The Lord with all your heart

and lean not unto your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him

and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

But He said to me,

“My Grace is sufficient for you …”

2 Corinthians 12:9

These were some of our questions for God.  Perhaps some of them are your questions too.

Did You create anyone to be evil?

If someone turned evil, why didn’t You just eliminate them?  You’ve got The Power to do that, don’t you?

Is there really a devil?  If You are going to defeat him one day, why not just go on and do it now?

Are You really a harsh God?  Wasn’t Adam and Eve’s Punishment too severe for just making a wrong food choice?

Who are You anyway?  How are You related to Jesus and The Holy Spirit?

Jesus said we had to be “born again.”  What did He mean by that?

I know Jesus came to save us, but I’m a little unclear on how that actually worked.  Could You go over that again with me?  What was it we actually got saved from?  Was it You?  (Don’t get mad.  I’m just asking!)

What about Jesus and the cross?  That seems really cruel too.  What kind of a Great Plan was that?  How could You send Your Son to do a really dirty job and then just turn Your Back on Him?

If Jesus came back from the dead, why did He go away again?  Do we really have to wait to see Him again?

If we have to carry on without seeing Jesus, but we want to follow Him, where do we sign up and what will it cost to be on His Team?

I hate to mention this, but is there really a Hell?  How can I make sure I don’t go there?

Is there really a Heaven?  Do we have to wait until we shed our skin before we can be there … or is it possible to have a little Heaven right now?

God answered us in amazing ways.  His Words flowed off the pages of The Bible straight into our minds and hearts.  I heard His Call to write.  And some of what I heard was different from the “old, old Story” I thought I knew.  The Truth of the “old, old Story” was intact, but God unwrapped some parts of it I had never seen before.

For every question we asked, God pointed back to His Word, Which is always trustworthy and true.  We read His Word, as if we had never read it before.  And He made it come alive and new!

He who was seated on the throne said,

“I am making everything new!”

Then He said,

“Write this down,

for these Words are trustworthy and true.”
