Are You Scared Of Death?

Are you afraid of dying? Most every fear in life, if traced out to its source, leads to a fear of death.

Why is that? People disappear! They go somewhere we cannot go yet. Everything that once cued us to their presence is removed.

Even when we read the comforting Words of the scriptures, we are just not sure. We are like the disciple, Thomas. We need something we can see and touch!

Jesus knew that. When we say Jesus saved us, we often miss how He saved us. Paul explained it well.

“Since the children (we) have flesh and blood, He (Jesus) too shared in their (our) humanity, so that by His Death, He might break The Power of Him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil — and free those (us) who all their (our) lives were held captive by the fear of death.”
Hebrews 2:14-15

Jesus gave us the ultimate “show and tell” through His Death and Resurrection.

As toddlers grow, they often experience separation anxiety. They have developed enough to remember their mother and father, but they have not developed trust to know their parents will come back when they leave.

Even when a parent calls them from the next room, it is not enough for them. They need to grow a little more before they can believe that the parent is really there.

Near the end of Jesus’ Physical Ministry on earth, He began to remove His Physical Presence from His Disciples. At the time of the storm at sea, He was sleeping in the boat. At another time, He was out walking on the water.

Jesus was training His Followers how to respond, as He had taught them, without Him being in front of them.

Jesus told His Disciples about His Coming death. He reassured them He would come back. He told them they would see Him again. He told them about The Holy Spirit Who would personally comfort them.

And yet when they witnessed His horrifying death, they seemed to have forgotten everything. Fear took over.

But like the faithful parent, Jesus came back in the form they were so used to seeing. He let them touch Him. He walked and talked with them.

And not only that, He allowed others who had died to return in their earthly bodies, so it was even more clearly demonstrated that death had no power.

After a period of time of teaching and reassuring, Jesus once again went from their physical sight. But His imparting (not parting) Words were, “I AM (God’s Name) with you always!”

As His Followers watched Him fade from their physical sight, two angels reassured them.

“He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go.”
Acts 1:11

The day will come when every eye shall see Him in all His Glory. Even unbelievers will have no doubt of His Awesome Presence.

But now, He is visible through the eyes of The Spirit.

Some have not opened their spiritual eyes yet.

As we grow spiritually, our eyes open wider. We come to know more and more the wonder of Jesus being present inside of us. He is not limited to just one body. He is present in many bodies through The Power of His Holy Spirit.

In this moment, feel His Presence inside of you. Hear Him speaking to you.

“And be sure of this: I am with you always!”
Matthew 28:20

“No, I will not abandon you as orphans — I will come to you. Soon the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me. Since I live, you also will live.”
John 14:16-19

Jesus showed us how death works. He is The Way. He tells The Truth. He gives us Life that continues beyond an earthly body. Don’t let fear of death steal your Joy. Remember why Jesus came!

“I have come that they (you) might have Life, and have it to the full!”
