I Remember You!

Birthdays are special. Most of us enjoy receiving well wishes. We smile when we realize someone took the time to remember us.

Heavenly birthdays are important too. While we anticipate a time of seeing God even more clearly than we ever have before or a time of great reunion with those we love, we also hope to be remembered on earth.

There have been reports in the news of the great efforts made to provide memorial services for those who seemed to have no one who would remember them. I often wonder why no great efforts were made to remember them when they were on earth.

I have listened to many wonderful tributes at funerals. I have delivered many of them myself. But I have been saddened to realize the ones being eulogized may never have had the joy of hearing those words when they were on earth.

When my parents died, our family bonded together in sharing our memories. We remembered our time together, but more importantly, we remembered how we saw God through their lives.

Jesus said, “If you have seen Me, you have seen The Father.” That would be the greatest tribute if it could be said of each of us, “If you have seen them, you have seen The Father.”

Combining those thoughts, it occurs to me that we could give a wonderful gift by telling how we have seen God in each other.

Do it now. Tell someone in person. Make that phone call. Write that email or letter. Let someone know you are remembering them now.

Let them know they have made and are making a difference in the world. Let them know their life matters. Celebrate the gift God gave the world by creating them and giving them a birthday!

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”
