Paul described very well how The Body of Christ is put together by God.
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose.
Now you are The Body of Christ and individually members of it.”
From 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.
Keep Paul’s Words in mind as you read Luke’s account of what Jesus said at what we have come to call The Last Supper.
“Then He took some bread and thanked God for it.
He broke off some pieces, gave them to the apostles and said, ‘This bread is My Body that I am giving for you. Eat this to remember Me.’
In the same way, after supper, Jesus took the cup of wine and said, ‘This wine represents the new agreement from God to His people. It will begin when My Blood is poured out for you.’
Luke 22:19-20
We often interpret Jesus’ Words of “remember” as holding Him in our memory.
We interpret Jesus giving His Body as giving up His Physical Body on the cross.
However, I believe there is a much deeper meaning than that.
Just as Jesus was demonstrating breaking the bread, and giving them each a piece,
He was letting us know He would no longer be in just one physical body.
Jesus was giving up residing in one body to live in multiple bodies. He would be living in each of us.
He wanted each of us to take The Life He was giving us, live it to the fullest and work in harmony to be His unified Body. He wanted us to be One in Him.
He wanted us to re-member Him, each of us faithfully fulfilling the part He gave to us and fitting together to let the world see Him in all His Glory.
Jesus prayed for His Disciples and all those who would come after them. He prayed for us.
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be One, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.”
John 17:20-21
Look at your body and know it was created by God to be a dwelling place for Him. And realize you are just one part of His Larger Body.
As Paul said, “Now you are The Body of Christ and individually members of It.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
“Your body is a Temple for The Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you!”
1 Corinthians 6:19
