My parents were married for ten years without children. My mother said she wanted children, but even more, she simply wanted to live the life God planned for her.
In the tenth year, my mother became pregnant. When the time came for delivery, there were significant complications.
My father paced back and forth outside the delivery room, silently praying.
At one point, the doctor came out and told him it was unlikely he could save both my mother and the baby. He asked which my father wanted him to save.
My father refused to make such a choice. He resolutely told the doctor he wanted both of them saved.
The doctor returned to the delivery room. My father returned to prayer. He asked God for both, but completely surrendered to The Will of The Lord.
Both my mother and their son were saved. My mother lived to be 91 years old. My brother celebrated his 85th birthday on November 3.
God’s Perfect Will was carried out through their lives as it was through my father’s life. He frequently told us, “Prayer is the biggest Power we’ve got.” And he proved it over and over again in his 96 years of life.
Would God have saved my mother and brother without the prayers of my father who stood firmly in the gap for them? Yes, He would have if it were His Perfect Will.
But my father learned through that battle and others what one should do when you do not know what to do … when the world says there is no way … when you believe you are about to lose what you thought was yours.
Surrender to The One Who knows all … The One Who is The Way … The One Who never takes back His Gifts.
God saved my mother and brother, and He brought me into the world 11 years after my brother.
God gave my parents and later my brother children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He has given me a child and grandchild. His Mercies never cease!
Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Hum, and He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is The Will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
