Many people select a word they hope will define or inspire them in the coming year.

This year, 2023, I am choosing the word “now.”

Many of the regrets of my life are because I postponed doing things and when I finally got around to doing them, it was too late.

The window of opportunity had passed.

I also worry a lot about the future.  I come by it naturally.  My father was a worrier.  He often said, tongue in cheek, “They say what you worry about never happens, so I try to worry about everything I can.”

And, of course, when things we never worried about happen, we worriers worry even more.

God divided time into little bits for us.  He put boundaries dividing the present from the past and the present from the future.  He did this as His Gift to us.  The Present is a Present!

Jesus said, “Take no thought of tomorrow.”

Matthew 6:34

He said to seek first The Kingdom of God.

Matthew 6:33

David said, “This is the day The Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Psalm 118:24

God said through the prophet Isaiah, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up!”

Isaiah 43:18-19

When does it happen?  NOW.  In fact it is impossible to live anywhere else other than the present.  Now stands for No Other Way!

This year I resolve to fully live in every moment, seeking God and going where He leads.

I resolve to promptly do what He calls me to do.

I resolve to take the lessons from the past and leave behind the regrets.

I resolve to trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding;

knowing that when I submit to Him in all my ways, He will make my paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6
