When we die, will we really have to give up earth to get Heaven?
Is it possible all the beauty of the earth will still be available to us? It will not have changed. We will be changed.
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
I believe each one of us will get a trumpet welcome at the time of our transformation. The last trumpet is not at the end of all time. It is the last time we individually will be limited by time!
And that trumpet call will not be a mournful taps. It will be an upbeat fanfare that alerts everyone in heaven, “She’s here!”
So how will we be changed? We will be like Jesus!
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
1 John 3:2
So how was Jesus after His Resurrection?
He was able to appear and disappear, walk through walls, ascend up into the clouds. He could walk, talk and eat.
Jesus had access to both heaven and earth. If we will be like Jesus, we can spend forever exploring all the places in heaven and on earth.
If we are like Jesus, then we will be free of a body that is steadily decaying. We will have glorious new bodies that allow us to see perfectly, hear perfectly, touch, feel, process things in new ways. Imagine exploring heaven and earth with your new body!
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Without a body that is stuck in a gravity dictated, time dictated, sin and trouble dictated place, we will be able to soar!
If we are like Jesus, we can reject any sins that tried to entangle us in our old bodies. We will truly know what is Truth and we will be free.
We will be able to see ourselves and everyone else as God created us to be, our best selves. We will not condemn or be condemned. We will only have joy as we get to know our redeemed selves.
If we are like Jesus, then we will be able to do all the things He did on earth and more. Think of all He did and see your future ministry in full blossom.
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
Being free of what we call time, we will be able to talk with anyone from any time. Jesus talked with Moses and Elijah at the same time as He talked with Peter, James and John. Who would you like to talk to from the past?
We will be able to use the gifts God has given us to the fullest. If you like to sing, how would you like to fly up to the top of a tree and sing in a chorus with the birds? Or perhaps you will be on the front row of the heavenly choir singing Glory to God!
We will be able to understand everyone and everything in Creation. Not only will we be able to understand all human languages, we will be able to understand animals and all created things.
You and your long departed pets can reminisce about the good times you had on earth. And you can go exploring new places together.
Best of all, you will remember the good things you have experienced on earth, but forget the bad.
The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create!
This does not mean we have total amnesia. We will remember joy, but not sorrow.
When God says “The former things will not be remembered,” he is telling us that what breaks your heart will no longer come to your mind. What causes you pain and distress will no longer have power over you; it will no longer be present with you.
If we are like Jesus, we can contemplate now the joy that is coming!
I have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy may be made full and complete and overflowing.
And one more observation — we are already made in God’s Image. While being in an earth suit limits us somewhat now, our spirit is free to be just like Jesus.
How many things can we do just like Jesus right now? Why not start by looking at everyone like Jesus did … no judging … no condemnation … just love and excitement to see their best selves revealed!
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate The Lord’s Glory, are being transformed into His Image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from The Lord, Who is The Spirit.
