There are some people who are wonderful at providing comfort.  They know just what to say and how to say it.

They know when to speak and when to be silent.

They know when to show up at the door unannounced.  They know when to stay away and let a person have space.

Are these traits something that can be learned or do they just come naturally?

Perhaps a little of both.  But I believe what makes a person a good comforter is whether they know and listen to the Best Comforter and Counselor.

Isaiah prophesied The Holy Spirit revealed through Jesus would be wonderful.  He would bring Peace the world could not bring.  He would be a Counselor!

And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

Jesus called The Holy Spirit, The Comforter.

John 14:26

We have The Spirit, Who is The Counselor and Comforter, inside us.  He is not only available to counsel and comfort us for our own needs, He is available to tell us how to help others.

Paul said, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of The Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own!”

1 Corinthians 6:19

How do you receive The Wisdom of The Holy Spirit?

Acknowledge you do not know all the answers.

Call on The One Who does have all the answers.

Allow Him to counsel you and comfort you.  You cannot give to others what you yourself have not received.

Share The Counsel and Comfort He has given you with others.  Ask Him what you are to do and when.  His Way and Timing are always perfect!

Praise be to The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of Compassion and The God of all Comfort, Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
