Jesus told Pilate, “The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to The Truth . Everyone on the side of Truth listens to Me.”
“What is truth?” retorted Pilate.
John 18:37-38
How would you answer that? What is Truth to you?
For many of us, Truth is someone agreeing with what we already believe. Someone will say something and we say, “Yes. Isn’t that the truth!”
Some take it up a notch and say, “That’s the God’s honest truth.”
Sometimes in courts of law, people swear or affirm to “tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God.”
Truth is vital to our relationship with God. Not only did Jesus say that He was brought into the world to testify about The Truth, He also said He Himself is The Truth.
Jesus answered, “I AM The Way, and The Truth and The Life.”
John 14:6
John told us Jesus is The True God.
We know also that The Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him Who is true. And we are in Him Who is true–even in His Son Jesus Christ. He is The True God and eternal life.
1 John 5:20
Jesus called The Spirit of God The Spirit of Truth. Since God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit are One, it is no surprise that Jesus frequently prefaced what He said by saying, “I tell you The Truth.”
The question becomes do we want to believe His Truths … or … do we want to hang on to what we always thought was true or what we want to be true?
Next time we will explore further the answer to Pilate’s question, “What is Truth?”
I tell you The Truth, whoever hears My Word and believes Him Who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to Life!
John 5:24
