Jesus taught us how to pray through a short, simple but powerful prayer. We have come to call it The Lord’s Prayer.
We may have said it so many times we could say it in our sleep. And that may be the stumbling block for us. It is so familiar we do half sleep when we say it.
We say it, but we don’t pray it. I invite you to pray it now with Jesus.
Our Father in heaven …
God is our Father. We are all God’s Children.
Holy is Your Name …
Talk directly to God. Recognize you are in The Presence of The Holy One, Who is worthy of praise and honor.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven …
Read Jesus’ Sermon on The Mount. Are you a living representative of His Kingdom of Heaven on earth?
In order for that to be true, we have to let His Will become our Will. We have to get to know Him so every decision, every move we make is His Will.
Give us today our daily bread …
God not only feeds our physical bodies, He would also like to feed us spiritually with The Bread of Life.
We often recognize when we are physically hungry, but we may not realize when we are spiritually hungry. We try to feed that hunger in other ways besides receiving what God is offering us.
God wants to feed us regularly, both physically and spiritually. He invites all of us to the table.
The next part of Jesus’ Prayer is so important, He repeated it and emphasized it at the end of His Prayer.
He prayed,
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Then at the end of The Lord’s Prayer, He said,
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
God does not rate how bad sins are. He looks at how faithfully we pass on The Grace He has given us.
Jesus then said,
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Would God tempt us? No!
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone.
James 1:13
Jesus’ prayer reflects the desire not to allow ourselves to get into situations where we will be tempted. We need God’s Guidance to keep us away from those situations.
God always desires that we resist temptation. But when we fall to temptation, He still stands ready to deliver us from evil.
May we never just say The Words again. May we always pray and live as Jesus taught.
For Yours, oh Lord is The Kingdom and The Power and The Glory, forever!
Imagine The Power that would be released if we all prayed The Lord’s Prayer together and meant every word!
