My father always felt sad that his mother never got to meet his children. She died the year before he met my mother.
But, he added, he always liked to think she was present and could see all of us. I grew up with stories of grandparents and great grandparents I never knew, and yet somehow it seemed I did know them.
When family would get together and talk about them, it was as if they were right there too. It was not creepy. It was comforting.
My sister in law died before any of her three children married and had children. She loved children, so I am sure she would have delighted in each of them.
Being the family “memory keeper,” I now want to share my memories of her with them, so they get the joy of her presence.
I had the joy of my parents being with me until they were in their 90s. Even though I was a middle aged adult when they were promoted to heaven, I was not ready to let them go.
However, they have made their ongoing presence known in a myriad of ways since then. Again, it is not creepy. It is comforting.
So what does The Bible say about such things? Is there any evidence those out of a physical body are still here?
I will share with you some interesting Biblical tidbits.
When Jesus was asked about people’s marriage partners in heaven, He answered people would not be married like on earth. I believe He meant our joint union with Him would be so much greater than we can ever imagine now.
But in that same statement, He said “at the resurrection,” we will be “like the angels in heaven.”
Mark 12:25
What do we know about angels? They have access to both heaven and earth. They can come and go.
Jacob saw in a dream angels ascending and descending from Heaven.
Genesis 28:12
The angels who proclaimed Jesus birth on earth then returned to Heaven.
Luke 2:15
Angels appear to be able to physically manifest wearing different bodies as God directs.
God sends them to give messages, encourage, guide, protect, comfort and any number of other tasks.
Even more amazing are John and Paul’s revelations. More than just sharing some characteristics of angels, we will be like Jesus.
1 John 3:2
2 Corinthians 3:18
In His Resurrected body, Jesus was able to easily move around earth. But He was also able to go back and forth between Heaven and earth.
If we and our loved ones are to become like Jesus, then we can say what He said.
“Be sure of this. I am with you always!”
Matthew 28:20
Stop for a moment. Feel Jesus’ Presence.
And feel The Presence of all those He has brought with Him. Some you may never have met in the flesh, but they know you and celebrate you with Your Creator.
They are with you always!
