My quest to know things seems unending.  Somewhere in life, I started to believe an untruth.

I started to believe “my knowledge is power.”

It isn’t.

When I started out as a child, I knew very little.  I only knew what God and my parents taught me.

I was at peace with that.  They knew.  I trusted them.    If I needed to know something, I turned to them.

But as I got older, I learned more from other sources.  And I learned I could put bits of knowledge together and use that knowledge to act and change things around me.

The first seeds of “my knowledge is power” had been planted.

As I advanced in school, I learned knowledge could lead to recognition and rewards.  A Power trip of its own.

I learned knowledge could get me jobs and create new titles for me.  Having certain knowledge gave me new names.  I could proudly say I am a Registered Nurse.

I learned having more knowledge than other people gave me an advantage over them.  I knew things they didn’t.

I then started solidifying what I thought I knew.  My knowledge turned into my belief system.  I learned so many things other people taught me about God I thought I knew Him.

Without realizing it, I became spiritually arrogant.  I thought I knew God so well I could tell other people what they should believe and what they should not.

I thought I was The Way instead of realizing I was on The Way myself.

And then, life happened.

When it did, I frantically sought knowledge.  I lived on the net, stitching bits of my already acquired knowledge with the so call knowledge of others to come to conclusions that terrified me more.

Without my realizing it, satan had already carved various highways into my mind.  He and his demons were having road races there.

And then I simply concluded the real truth.  I was lost.  Knowledge was not power.

Everything I thought I knew started to crumble.  I felt I did not know anything.  It frightened me.

I thought I knew God, but really I did not.  In shame, as I look back, I realize how I was really seeing Him.

He was the speed dial emergency contact.

He was the wishing well.

He was the admin officer who was supposed to fulfill my to do list.

He was the librarian, who could direct me to the right place to answer my unending questions.

He was my travel agent who was supposed to plan the trips I wanted and get me there safely and with only good times on the way.

In the crisis, I did not need any of those things.  When He sat with me, He said gently, “What do you want?”

I said the words that now define my new path.  I said them out loud and it frightened me.

“I don’t know.”

All my collection of knowledge useless now? The emptiness of that moment was terrifying.

“Then,” He said, “Let’s start with what I know.”

I perked up.  Wow.  I was going to get to know what God knows.  I thought maybe I should take notes.  But He assured me I did not need to.

He told me actually what He was going to tell me was already inside me with Him.  But I had allowed so much fake earth information in, it had clogged everything up.

He said, “Let’s wipe your memory for now and just put back in what I tell you.”

He is doing that.  There is a lot of stuff there, so it will take time.

But He is already uncovering what was there all along.  Him and the wondrous security of being with The One Who knows all.

Will He tell me everything?  No.

Will He tell me what I need to know when I need to know it?  Yes.

But for now this is what He said.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares The Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.

Psalm 50:11

I know the number of the stars and call them each by name.

Psalm 147:4

I know you.

I have searched you and I know you.

I know when you sit and when you rise; I perceive your thoughts.

I discern your going out and your lying down; I am familiar with all your ways.

Before a word is on your tongue, I know it completely.

I hem you in behind and before, and I lay My Hand upon you.

If you go up to the heavens, I am there; if you make your bed in the depths, I am there.

If you rise on the wings of the dawn, if you settle on the far side of the sea, even there My  Hand will guide you, My Right Hand will hold you fast.

If you say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”even the darkness will not be dark to Me; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to Me.

For I  created your inmost being; I  knit you together in your mother’s womb.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made; My Works are wonderful, you know that full well.

Your frame was not hidden from Me when I made you in the secret place, when I wove you together in the depths of the earth.

My Eyes saw your unformed body; all the days ordained for you were written in My Book before one of them came to be.

Whether you are awake or asleep, I am still with you.

Psalm 139:1-18

I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

Jeremiah 31:3

Be sure of this.  I am with you always.

Matthew 28:20

You are in Me, and I am in you.

John 14:20

And there are so many other things He knows.  He is still restoring my memory.

One other thing He said is really intriguing.  Jesus said it plainly.  It is about knowing.

It turns out Eternal Life is happening now and getting larger all the time as we know more and more about The One who knows us completely.

And this is eternal life, that they know You, The Only True God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent.

John 17:3

And in that way, Knowledge really is Power!
