Jesus showed us what His Resurrected Body was like.
He looked different because even those who knew Him well did not instantly recognize Him.
He had a body similar to an earth body because He could touch and be touched.
Jesus even said,
“Look at My Hands and My Feet. It is I Myself! Touch Me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
Luke 24:39
He had evidence of earth wounds, but they did not hurt. Thomas could put his hand in Jesus’ side.
Jesus could walk, talk, eat and even cook.
But it appeared His Body had new expanded features. It seemed He could appear and disappear. Locked doors or walls were no longer a barrier to Him.
Time and distance were no longer barriers. He could pop in one place and quickly be in another.
He appeared to be able to function without being at the mercy of gravity. He could function within its pull or not.
When He wanted to, He ascended into Heaven. He did this, not in a spaceship, but in His Body.
Jesus was not the only one who came back from the dead.
The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
Matthew 27:52-53
When we grow from a baby to a child to an adult, the old us does not die. It is changed into a body suitable for the next part of our life.
We retain parts of what we had from the beginning. We are simply reshaped and changed.
A caterpillar’s body undergoes a dramatic transformation, breaking down and reforming to create the adult butterfly’s body, including wings, legs, and other structures.
Note — it does not die. It is transformed. It gets upgrades that allow it to fly and go places it never could in its old life.
And now look at how Paul describes our body’s change.
We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!
1 Corinthians 15:51
So don’t give up on all of your old earth body yet. Look forward to seeing it and enjoying it in its transformed state.
Isaiah saw it in his spirit. He wrote,
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing.
For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.
Isaiah 35:5-8
