Satan would prefer we never connect with God.  But if we do, he has various ways of trying to defuse what he sees as a bomb on his desired kingdom.

Satan loves sin.  He loves what it does to people.  And he especially loves it when he can convince the humans they have just fallen too far for God to ever take them back.

And, satan adds, if God ever wanted to have anything to do with us after sinning, it would be to punish us beyond belief.  “Look at what God did to His Own Son,” Satan says, pointing to the cross.  (Satan never acknowledges he had anything to do with the torture of the cross.  The way he tells it, that was all God!)

Would that make you want to run to God or flee, as so many others did?  But God is not waiting to give us a beating.  He is waiting to give us a bath!

God is faithful and reliable.  If we confess our sins, He forgives them and cleanses us from everything we’ve done wrong.
1 John 1:9
