Jesus thought back over His Mission to save His People from their sins. Who were His People? Every human on the earth was created by The One. They were and are all His People, even when they do not recognize Him. Jesus had saved many. Many would be saved through the testimony of those who had been saved and by the Power of The Holy Spirit working through them.
Anyone evaluating Jesus would have given Him an A plus. They would have told Him to be proud and not worry about those who had heard His Words, seen the Miracles He performed, and yet … had rejected Him. That night in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was thinking of them.
… “how often I have longed to gather your children together,
as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,
and you were not willing.”
Matthew 23:37
Jesus said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death … “ Matthew 26:38
What would cause Jesus such sorrow? Yes, He was about to undergo an outrageous attack by satan. Was Jesus overwhelmed at the thought? No, Jesus knew Who He was. Jesus knew He was a part of The One and They were going into battle together. He saw The Victory ahead.
He saw The Joy ahead of Him,
so He endured death on the cross
and ignored the disgrace it brought Him.
Then He received The Highest Position in Heaven,
the one next to God.
Hebrews 12:2
But He wanted everyone to be a part of that victory. No one left behind. A few more moments. Jesus asked The Father if They could wait just a little longer. Hold off on allowing satan to pour all his bitterness into the world. But …
It was time. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit came into complete agreement.
After Jesus said this,
He looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son,
that Your Son may glorify You.”
John 17:1
