In my last blog post, we pondered the question of whether God would ever take His Gifts or Calling back. He won’t.

Remember Romans 11:29.
“God never changes His Mind when He gives Gifts or when He calls someone.”

But what if He calls and you don’t want to do what He is calling you to do? Why would anyone hesitate to respond to God’s Call?

Moses is remembered as a great man of God. But in the beginning, Moses was overwhelmed by God’s Call.

Moses said to The Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent in the past, nor since You have spoken to Your Servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
Exodus 4:10

Moses, like many of us, said, “Excuse me, Lord. You know my limitations. You know I can’t do that.”

So did God let Moses off the hook? No! God clearly put things in perspective for Moses. The assignment had nothing to do with what Moses thought were his own abilities. The assignment had everything to do with God’s Power.

The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I The Lord?”
Exodus 4:11

Oops! Before Moses could think of a good comeback, God said,

“Now go; I will help you speak and teach you what to say.”
Exodus 4:12

Notice God said for Moses to go first. Moses needed to take the first step in faith that God would fulfill His Promise.

What are you called to do? Do you believe God can do anything through you? Do you see His Power or your human limitations? How much do you trust Him? How much pride are you willing to give up to let Him work?

Now it would make a great story to tell you Moses went forth from that moment and started preaching. But that was not what happened.

Like many of us, Moses still could not see himself in this picture. Moses knew God’s Assignment was very important and he really didn’t want to ruin it for God. Have you ever thought “I want to be a good representative of God. I can’t have people looking at me and wondering why God made such a bad choice.”

Moses very boldly said,
“Pardon Your Servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”
Exodus 4: 13

God was mad! Verse 14 says, “The Lord’s Anger burned against Moses.” So did God then fry Moses and leave him alone? No!

God knew what He was going to accomplish through Moses. But He knew Moses was going to need some “training wheels” before he was even going to try to go.

In His Great Mercy and Compassion for Moses, God gave him a human helper. It was someone Moses could trust. It was his brother, Aaron.

God said,
“What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you and he will be glad to see you.”
Exodus 4:14

Note God had already put The Plan in place. He already had the Helper on the way. Whatever you are arguing with God about doing, know this. He will help you and while you are hesitating, He has already put His Plan into action.

This is what God said to Moses.
“You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him”
Exodus 4:15-16

God was going to teach Moses how to listen to Him and then faithfully and reliably give His Words to an audience of one. In time, Moses would grow into The Full Calling of God. In the process, God was also giving Gifts to Aaron.

God gave Moses a beautiful preview of The Work of His Holy Spirit, Who is also called The Helper. He is in you and He will speak through you and accomplish everything God has called you to do.

If you are trembling on the brink of God’s Call to you, hesitate no longer. Praise God for the privilege of His High Calling. Praise Him for His Constant Presence in you! Go and do what He calls you to do moment by moment.

Simply say God’s Name. The first two letters tell us to “GO.” The last two letters read backwards tells us to “DO.” God will give us everything we need to answer His Call, as long as we stay in Him!img_7536
