Today many people will travel great distances to see a few minutes of a wonder in the sky — the eclipse.

Yet most people miss God’s every day and night wonders from the sky.  The sun, moon, stars, clouds, lightening and rainbows and so much more provide an ongoing parade of  beauty.

As someone dryly observed, “The Heavens declare The Glory of God, but most people are inside channel checking” (or texting).

David, who began his life as a shepherd, never forgot, even in the midst of his chaotic later life.  He still looked up.  And he became “a man after God’s own heart.”

Acts 13:22

David wrote,

“The heavens declare The Glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His Hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.

They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

Psalm 19:1-4

Some of us feel this irresistible longing to be outside.  I think it is God’s Call to look up and remember The Home from which we came and to which we will return one day.

It is His Call to say hello to all those who are now there as great clouds of witnesses, cheering us on and keeping The Home Lights on for us.

The eclipse will no doubt be interesting.  But I hope we never miss the joys God gives us from The Heavens every day and night.

David was not the only one who discovered the wonder.  Another man named Ralph Waldo Emerson also discovered it.

He wrote,

“If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown!

But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile!”
