We live in a wonderful neighborhood. Children grow up here. Adults wave and call out, “Hi neighbor.” If anyone has a problem, everyone is always willing to help.
But we really do not know too much about each other’s daily lives. We come and go, content with what we know and what we don’t.
But there is much going on behind closed doors. We share the common human conditions of love, joy, doubts, fears and sorrows. We just don’t always share them with each other.
But God knows each and every heart and He unifies us all. We all do life under His Big Sky.
I was moved several years ago to begin what has become for me a spiritual practice.
Every night I pray for each one of our neighbors by name.
I pray for each pet by name.
I pray for the children of each of our neighbors by name.
If I am aware of a special need of our neighbor’s parents, I pray for them.
I pray for Love, Joy and Peace in their lives.
I pray they will know the wonder of being totally known and totally loved by their Creator.
I pray they will know He is with them always, in every moment.
I thank God He has brought us together as neighbors and now friends.
I look out my window and in my spirit, I see those for whom I have prayed. I go to sleep thanking God we are all safe and secure and United in Him.
The song from the movie, An American Tale, says it all. Yes, there is someone out here loving you tonight!
Love one another, as I have loved you.
