What do you want to know?
We seem to have been born with a thirst for knowledge. Eve’s desire to be wise … to know what God knew … led to her unfortunate liaison with satan.
And so the quest continued through the people of The Bible and on down to us. We want to know things.
Why? Because many of us started believing “knowledge is power.” We think if we had all the facts, we could control our world … or at least be better prepared for what is coming.
But it does not always work that way. We watch the weather report. But the weather does not turn out as predicted. We watch the news, but it is not always accurate. We are not sure who to believe.
The internet provides endless information. Insomniacs can find out how many feathers are on a chicken in Rhode Island, even though they are not sure why their brain wants to know at 3 AM.
You can skip going to the doctor and plug your symptoms into the net and find a variety of dread diseases you might have.
Today we are flooded with information from all sides. For many of us, it has moved beyond a simple “want to know.” We believe we “need to know.” We are beyond “hungry to know.” We are “ravenously needing that fix.” It has become an addiction.
People panic if they are more than two feet away from their cell phones. Many people use their phones or computers every two or three minutes.
They connect in cars, in restaurants, walking down the street, in the bathroom anywhere. They are flooded with nonstop information.
Satan’s original plan is now on steroids. We now have so much information we can’t process it all. We still don’t know what we want to know and so we keep searching the net.
In our mindless searches, satan hopes we will not know some things.
He hopes we will not be able to tell truth from lies.
He hopes we will exhaust ourselves with useless knowledge and not have the energy or focus to receive God’s Knowledge.
And most importantly He does not want us to know God. He realizes if we ever really know God, it is all over for him.
Satan knows our Eternal Life does depend upon knowledge, but not from him. Our Eternal Life depends on knowing God.
Jesus, in talking to His Father said,
“Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom You have sent.”
John 17:3
So look away from your devices for a moment and consider your own search history. Have you been seeking the world’s information or seeking to know God?
How do you know God? More to come on that in a future post. But for now, if you really mean it, just simply tell God “I would like to know You.”
He will then lead you to the best search ever.
You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.
