Dedicated with love to my friend, Barbara and her Kit Kat.
My friend, Barbara, shared that her cat recently died. Kit Kat was no ordinary cat (if there is even really such a thing as ordinary in the feline world).
Kit was the last cat of her beloved husband, Q, who no doubt continued to watch over both of them from Heaven.
I think there is an increased grief when we lose those who were connected to those we already lost. I suspect this is even true of losing pets, such as Kit.
When you pet them, you are aware that your hands are touching in Love the same place your loved one’s hands once lay. The love connection is still there, framed in fur.
When the kitty purrs or stretches in delight, you remember other times of watching your loved one give and get love from that precious ball of fur.
You remember how you laughed together at that silly cat’s antics … or maybe commiserated about the unwanted results of kitty’s misadventures.
Cats are independent beings. They do not give their affections easily. They have to size you up and decide if you are worthy of their attention, much less devotion.
I suspect after Q was promoted to heaven, Kit took the responsibilities of caring for Barbara seriously. Kit loved Q and Q loved Barbara. Kit understood he was the connector. He loved Barbara too.
So he stayed close until the day he heard Q across that rainbow bridge. I suspect he had a moment when he hesitated, not wanting to leave Barbara, but then he remembered what he had known all along.
There really is no separation in the world of Love. It goes on forever. And in some curious way, Love lets us be in multiple places at the same time. Kit knew they would all still be connected.
Barbara, may your memories of Kit and Q continue to make you smile. Much love to you.💞
