The human body is all about losing to gain. As much as we want to hang on to our bodies, parts of them are constantly being lost.
The good news is they are constantly being born again. One source says about 330 billion cells are replaced every day. Others take longer, but most cells in the body are changed out over time.
What Jesus said is true.
Very truly I tell you, no one can see The Kingdom of God unless they are born again.
John 3:3
And so physically we are born again, over and over again. But are we spiritually? Are we turning loose of those things that no longer serve their purpose so new things can grow in our spirits?
How many things do we do because it is our tradition or it has always been that way? Where does tradition fit in our spiritual lives?
Jesus did not throw out tradition. He adhered to the customs of His Faith Community. He made it clear He was not throwing out The Law and The Prophets.
However, He did not want people to be stuck in tradition and never let go. He wanted them to keep growing in their faith and Knowledge of God.
So He challenged certain practices and encouraged people to let go of “tradition for the sake of tradition” thinking. He wanted them to bring their traditions in line with His Word, not expect His Word to come in line with their traditions.
In fact, Jesus said sadly, “You make
The Word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
Mark 7:13
If you were to try to stop your human body from changing and renewing itself, it would die. Jesus said the same thing would happen unless we were willing to grow and renew spiritually.
Jesus said,
“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for Me, you will find it.”
Matthew 10:39
Take some time today to consider the traditions that are important to you.
Are your traditions a gateway to experiencing The Joy of The Lord and sharing that Joy with others?
Do your traditions line up with Who God is?
Are you learning anything new about God or are you just constantly recycling the same beliefs and traditions?
Do some of your traditions need to be released and replaced by God with new ones?
Remember the human body releases what no longer serves its purpose and God gives it something completely new!
Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
Isaiah 43:19
