No one had to wonder why Jesus came.  He made a public statement!  One day when He was in the synagogue, He unrolled the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and began to read:

The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,

because He has anointed Me

to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners,

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to release the oppressed,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s Favor!

(He then added,)

Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing!

Luke 4:18-19 and 4:21

Jesus was ready to open the prison doors and set the captives free!  The first captives to Whom He gave His Attention were those who were prisoners of their own bodies … those who were sick.  The Gospels are full of stories of Jesus’ healing ministry.  What can we learn from these accounts of healing?

Jesus is willing to heal!

Matthew 8:2 records that a man with leprosy came and knelt before Jesus and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”  Jesus made a statement for all times, when He said, “I am willing.  Be clean!”

Jesus has the Authority to heal!

Jesus took care of the Authority issue in one fell swoop, announcing that He had the Authority to forgive sins and heal.  He told a paralytic his sins were forgiven and then He commanded him to get up and walk!  (Matthew 9:5-6)

Jesus has the Full Power of God as His Means to heal!

Luke 5:17 records “the Power of the Lord was present for Him to heal the sick.”

Jesus is willing to come to us to heal us!

Matthew 8:6-7 records that a Roman soldier came to Jesus and begged for healing for his servant at home.  Jesus said, “I will go and heal him.”

Jesus will heal anytime!  He doesn’t have specific office hours.

When the teachers of the law were trying to trap Jesus, they showed him a man with a shriveled hand and asked Him if it was legal to heal on the Sabbath.  Matthew 12 records that Jesus left no doubt that it was acceptable to heal at any time, even on the Sabbath.  He healed the man right in front of them!

Jesus responds not only to the one in need, but He also responds because of the actions of others.

Many people were healed as a result of others who asked for healing on their behalf.

Jesus healed because of His Compassion, but also as a means of drawing people to His Teaching.

John 6:2 records “a great crowd of people followed Him because they saw the miraculous signs He had performed on the sick.”

Jesus healed them all!

Matthew 12:15, as well as other Scriptures, record, “He healed all their sick.”

Prayer is the key to healing, but FAITH unlocks the door!

So, if Jesus has the Authority and Power to heal, if He is willing to heal and responds to the pleas of anyone who believes He can and will heal them, what one thing might satan be able to use to prevent healing?  A lack of faith!

In all instances of healing, there was someone who believed Jesus could and would heal.  In one of the most interesting cases of healing, two blind men were begging for healing. Jesus said, “What do you want me to do for you?”  (Matthew 20:32) Was it not apparent what they wanted?  What was Jesus up to?

He wanted them to speak the picture they had in their minds.  He wanted them to see themselves seeing!

Our bodies are the Temple of God’s Holy Spirit.  It is the mobile home in which we travel on earth.  Jesus wants us to be whole in body, mind and spirit to carry out the same work He did on earth.  Matthew 10 records that Jesus gave the same Authority He had to His disciples to “heal every disease and sickness.”  He depends upon His Trusted Servants to continue to spread the good news, including healing.

1.  Settle in your mind, heart and spirit that Jesus wants you well.

2.  Have faith!

3.  Talk to Jesus about your need.

4.  Remove any block to receiving by asking forgiveness for anything you may have done that has separated you from Jesus.  You want a clear track between Him and you, so His Power can flow freely.  Receive His Forgiveness.

5.  Ask those who have also done steps 1-4 above to pray with you.  Join in a unified prayer of faith.

6.  Thank Jesus for His Gifts of Forgiveness and Healing.

7.  Don’t rely on your feelings to determine whether you have really been healed.  Receive, claim and know healing is yours.  Walk in confidence that it is a done deal!
