Satan was ecstatic when Jesus gave what seemed the ultimate concession speech.  Jesus said,

“… My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Matthew 27:46

And then He said,

… “It is finished!” …

John 19:30

However, satan need not have rejoiced so much.  If satan had recalled The Book of Psalms, Chapter 22, he would have realized Jesus was quoting the lament of a hurting and grieving person.  Jesus spoke from the cross, not for HImself, but as a representative of all who would be so burdened down with sin that they could not see how very present God was.

And if satan really wanted to understand what Jesus was saying in His final words of, “It is finished!” he would have had to read all the way through Psalm 22.  This powerful Psalm ends with the triumphant Message that was about to be revealed from the cross.

Posterity will serve Him;

future generations will be told about The Lord.

They will proclaim His Righteouness,

declaring to a people yet unborn:

He has done it!

Psalm 22:30-31

But the battle was not truly over until Jesus put the seal on the deal.  It was time for the Three in One to come forth as The One!

Jesus called out with a loud voice,

“Father, into Your Hands I commit My Spirit.” …

Luke 23:46

And then the party began, as The One took charge!

Chapter Ten is perhaps the most exciting chapter in this book, as we get a glimpse of what really happened at the cross.  Satan wanted to pay all sinners the wages of sin they had earned from him.  But on the ultimate Jubilee Day, God took over the books.

God Himself received the wages of sin satan wanted to pay God’s people.  He then cancelled all debts.  He freed those who had been a slave of satan.  He took away the fear of death.  He provided an ongoing Way Home.  God proclaimed from satan’s very instrument of torture that it had no power to kill or save.  He told them The Truth.  Only The One was The Way to Life.  When it was all over, satan was still on the ground and Jesus’ Words rang out through the Universe.
