On Good Friday, we focus on what Jesus said from the cross. Those Words are very significant and give us a continuing, beautiful picture of Love.
However, it is equally important to notice what Jesus did not say.
Jesus did NOT say:
My goose is cooked now. I’m a dead man walking!
This whole thing is a set up. It’s not fair! I know My Rights.
Do you know Who I AM? I outrank every one of you!
We need to have a better system to keep all these murderers out. I’ll make sure you and your family are all tortured before you are killed.
Everyone needs to get a sword and use it. You can start by cutting off the ears of anyone who confronts you.
I’ll call Daddy and He’ll send down fire from Heaven. I’m gonna fry you all!
Where is my so called friend, Peter? He denied Me. This is the last time I even say his name. He’s dead to Me now.
John, why are you just standing there? You implied you were the one I loved. You’re going to stand here and watch and do nothing?
(To the thief insulting Him) How can you say those nasty things? You’re a crook!
(To the thief who asked to join Him in His Kingdom) You want to go with Me now? Where were you when I could have done something for you? If you had asked me earlier, maybe you wouldn’t be here. Now you want to cash in on what I’ve got?
Mama, come save me! I wanna go home with you now.
The worst thing that can happen is for Me to die. I’m going to hang on to this body at all cost. I surrender to no one!
I hurt! Can’t you all see how much I’m suffering!
What Jesus DID say:
I AM The Living One;
I was dead
and now look, I AM alive forever and ever!
And I hold the keys to death and Hades.
Revelation 1:18
The Son of Man will go just as it was written about Him.
Matthew 26:24
For The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give His Life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45
It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Mark 2:17
But I tell you, do not resist an evil person.
If anyone slaps you on the right cheek,
turn to them the other cheek also.
Matthew 5:39
When the disciples, James and John, saw this,
they asked,
“Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven
to destroy them?”
But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
Luke 9:54-55
Put your sword back in its place.
For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
Matthew 26:52
Father, forgive them,
for they do not know what they are doing.
Luke 23:34
After Jesus’ Resurrection, he cooked breakfast for
His Followers, including Peter.
He then took Peter aside and called him by name, saying,
“Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
John 21:15
(In reference to John)
When Jesus saw His Mother there,
and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby,
He said to her,
“Woman, here is your son,
and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”
John 19:26
Jesus did not say anything to the thief who was insulting Him.
(To the thief, who sought to go with Jesus), He said,
“Truly, I tell you,
today you will be with Me in paradise.”
Luke 23:43
Jesus called out with a loud Voice,
“Father, into Your Hands I commit My Spirit.”
Luke 23:46
For the joy set before Him,
He endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down
at the right hand of the throne of God!
Hebrews 12:2
Which scenario sounds the most like what you would have said? Food for thought on this Easter weekend. Blessings to all —Carolyn
