What if …. how many of my deepest fears have begun with “What would I do if that happened to me?”

Life is not within our control, even when we believe it is.  When things happen that are completely unpredictable, it rocks our world.

We hear about people who got up expecting a regular day, and encountered a world that was anything but regular.  Violence, accidents, earthquakes, fires and the list goes on.

And what about those things that are predictable, but not what we want?

I just re-read the accounting of what happened to the disciples.  All except John were martyred in awful ways.  John was tortured and exiled before dying a “natural” death.

What must each disciple have thought as they saw another of their group tortured and killed?  They knew they could be next.  This was not just a worry.  It was almost a certainty.

Yet it was not enough to make them turn back.

They undoubtedly remembered Jesus’ Words, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in The Kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:62

And they remembered Jesus’ prayer in the garden, as He told His Father, “I have brought You glory on earth by finishing the work You gave Me to do.”

John 17:4

They had work to do and they had to finish it.

How do we live this life of uncertainty when we do not know the exact moment or circumstances in which we will move from earth to heaven?

We choose the life of certainty.

For certain, we know we are in these earth bodies for a limited time.  Accept it.

That time has already been set by God.  Trust Him.

He has work for us to do in the time He gives us.  Do it.

We are here to bring The Light of His Glory to a dark world.  Start where you are.

Finish the work without turning back.

Be sure of this.  He is with you always.

Be sure of this.  Nothing … absolutely nothing … will ever be able to separate you from God’s Love.

Be sure of this.  There is Joy waiting on the other side of any suffering on earth.

Therefore, we will do as Jesus instructed us.

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:34

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart.  I have overcome the world!

John 16:33
